Demolition FAQs

  • How long does the demolition process take?

The time it takes to complete a demolition mostly depends on the size of the structure being demolished. In the majority of cases, smaller buildings such as domestic garages will take one day, but projects involving multiple structures or larger complexes can last longer (3-7 days).

However, another variable that could impact the time it takes is asbestos. If asbestos is present in your structure, it will need to be removed first, which can take a couple of days depending on the scale of the problem.

Speak to a member of our team about your demolition requirements in Dubbo and we’ll be able to give you a better estimation for your specific project.

  • What happens to building materials during a demolition?

At Boland Contracting, we reuse, recycle and salvage as many building materials as we can during all our demolition projects.

Common items that can be recycled or reused in some way include wood, carpets, plasterboard, roofing materials, insulation and tiles. However, where possible, we’ll do our best to salvage building materials like brick, porcelain and concrete too.

Demolition is a much more environmentally-friendly process than most people first realise.

We are working hard to reduce the environmental impact of our services on the environment, so don’t hesitate to ask us any questions about our process if this is important to you.

  • Do I need to hire a professional demolition service in Dubbo or can I tackle the project myself?

While it may seem easy to do demolition work yourself, it can be a complicated process, with legal, environmental and safety obligations to take into account.

What’s more, experienced demolition contractors will thoroughly prepare your site for destruction, which you’re unlikely to be able to do without all the relevant qualifications.

As well as performing inspections and removing hazardous materials, our team will disconnect your utility services and obtain any necessary permits.

  • Is construction high risk?

Yes, but when you hire Boland Contracting, rest assured all risks are managed and controlled to guarantee the safety of everyone on site.

It’s worth remembering that while demolition work involves the dismantling or demolishing of a structure, it doesn’t include the removal of phone, light or power lines.

It also doesn’t impact the formwork or structures that are used to provide access, support or containment during construction projects.

  • Are there any specific laws surrounding demolition work?

Yes, there are specific laws about doing demolition work safely, but our team will talk you through these.

    However, to summarise:

SafeWork must be notified of any demolition work being carried out in NSW. Using a demolition notification form or the online notification system, notice must be provided 5 days before work begins if the structure is more than 6 metres high or requires explosives.

Depending on the type of demolition work required, you may need a licence. However, our team will handle this process on your behalf.

Finally, we have to check the asbestos register before beginning demolition work. If a register is not available, a competent person will have to inspect your structure for asbestos.

  • How can I ensure the safety of neighbouring properties during the demolition process?

Ensuring demolition safety for neighbouring properties is a top priority at Boland Contracting. A comprehensive assessment of the site and surrounding structures is conducted before any demolition activities commence. Precision techniques are employed to manage the demolition safely, particularly in populated areas. Additionally, temporary supports and barriers are strategically placed to secure the area and prevent debris from causing accidental damage. These practices are essential to protecting adjacent buildings and maintaining safety throughout demolition.

  • What measures do you take to minimise environmental impact during demolition?

Minimising the demolition impact on the environment is a fundamental principle of our operations. We prioritise health, safety and environmental preservation in every project. By adhering to both the Australian Construction Industry regulations and our rigorous internal standards, we effectively reduce environmental disturbances during demolition. Our commitment to these practices guarantees that each demolition project upholds and often surpasses industry standards for environmental protection.

  • What factors determine the cost of a demolition project?

Several factors influence the cost of a demolition project. The primary considerations include the size and complexity of the structure, the presence of hazardous materials like asbestos and the level of site preparation required. Additional factors, such as accessibility, the need for specialised equipment and waste disposal requirements, also play a role. Each project is unique, so we provide free customised quotes based on an on-site inspection and a thorough understanding of the specific needs and challenges of the demolition task at hand.
